Luis Rene Marrero Cordero, Executive Director

Luis Re has been developing emerging community ventures to serve the homeless and advance public health, social justice, and environmental justice. In 2011, he was deployed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to lead an international health brigade responding to the 2010 earthquake. In 2014, he launched Raices Urbanas, a public health program for Caras con Causa to improve living conditions in the polluted Cataño Air Basin. Following Hurricanes Irma and Maria, he served as a first responder with Caras con Causa. Luis Re has a B.S in biology from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s in Public Administration from Rutgers University. He also likes to think he’s a Thai Chef and a Bonafide Farmer.

 

Liza Morales Ortiz, Director of Operations

Health specialist and researcher with extensive experience in mentoring, development and management of community projects, as well as social, clinical, and academic research. Throughout her career, she has worked on research, community, humanitarian, and social projects in Haiti, Guatemala, Mexico, and Nepal. In Puerto Rico, she has collaborated with various non-profit organizations and independent projects such as the PR Community Foundation, Flamboyán Foundation, Iniciativa Comunitaria, Taller Salud, and the San Juan Bay Estuary Program, among others. Currently, she is part of the faculty of the International Studies and Global Communication program at the Ferré Rangel School of Communication and collaborates as a Researcher in the Climate Beacon project of the journalistic platform 9 Millions and the International Network of Journalism Solutions.

Emily Alfred, Project Manager

Originally from Washington state, Emily has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education and Disaster Risk Reduction. Emily came to Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria and Irma to volunteer rebuilding roofs in Yabucoa and Humacoa. What started as a temporary commitment sparked a new career path and love for the island. Emily has worked in the field of construction for the last 4 years as a carpenter, foreman, on-site supervisor, volunteer trainer, case assessor, project coordinator and project manager. In her free time Emily can be found planning an adventure or playing in the ocean.

Carmen Rodriguez, Compliance Manager

Carmen Rodríguez-Vicenty, Compliance Manager of ProTechos, is a community-oriented Educator with years of teaching and supervising experience that believes wholeheartedly that the learning process is not completed until you use the knowledge acquired to build a better society. Natural of Rio Piedras, Carmen graduated from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus with a BA in Education and completed two years of Law School. In the last years she has focused her free time and energy on projects, organizations and small activities that are of benefit for the community. Carmen loves her dog Pangolina, reading, and endless conversations with her two sons, daughter, and friends

 

Frank Martinez, Financial Manager

Frank Martinez was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and raised in Cupey. He studied Accounting at UMET Ana G Mendez University in Cupey. Frank began volunteering as a financial advisor for PRoTechos. He was drawn to PRoTechos because of the our dual mission of working directly with communities by rebuilding roofs and also training. Frank enjoys meeting new people and learning new things like building roofs

Camila Daffre, Website Manager

Camila, a mechanical engineering student at the University of Georgia, has always been passionate about helping others. In 2019, she led a volunteer project in the Dominican Republic to rebuild a wood-burning stove in a public elementary school. With PRoTechos, Camila created this website and works on maintaining this site.

Emily N. Roisman, President and CLO

Emily is a founding member of PRoTechos and serves as the President of the Board of Directors and its Chief Legal Officer. Emily has more than 30 years of experience as a commercial attorney, first as a corporate litigator and later as in-house counsel, providing business-focused legal advice and drafting and negotiating contracts for public and private companies. She received her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and her JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

 

 

Anita Montaner Sevillano, Vice President

Anita is a Capital Member and Chair of the Labor & Employment Law Practice Group at McConnell Valdes in their San Juan, PR office.  She has been a member of the firm’s Policy Committee for the past 12 years, participating as a voting member in all matters and decisions related to firm governance and management, and she has served as the Secretary of the Policy Committee for 8 years.  She received her undergraduate degree from Boston College and her JD from University of Puerto Rico Law School. 

 

 

Javier A. Ojeda Guadalupe, Treasurer

Javier Ojeda is an auditor in the PricewaterhouseCoopers San Juan Office. He has been with the firm for five years with experience in various industries including banking, manufacturing, and insurance. In addition, Javier worked for various years with the non-profit Caras con Causa, in which he worked with on-field educational and environmental projects, donor compliance and accounting. He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with concentrations in accounting and marketing from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, and he has been a licensed CPA since 2017.

 

 

 

 

Edna Echandi-Guzman, Secretary

Edna Echandi-Guzmán, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a partner at Marvel Architects. During the course of her career, she has played a pivotal role in numerous architecture and urban planning ventures across Puerto Rico and New York, making significant contributions to projects including the El Portal de El Yunque Visitor’s Center, Arlo Midtown Hotel in Manhattan, as well as Master Plans for educational institutions like Sagrado Corazon University, UPR’s Bayamon campus, and Robinson School.

Edna also lends her expertise to non-profit organizations throughout the island, offering support to initiatives like Ciudadanos del Karso and Mujeres de Islas in project planning and design, and has served a two year term as the Governing Board Secretary for the Colegio de Arquitectos y Arquitectos Paisajistas de Puerto Rico.

Her educational background includes Bachelor and Master degrees in architecture from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, and a second Master’s degree in Architecture from Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain.
